Camp Kum-Ba-Yah Nature Center serves emerging social needs through the process of engaging children, families and community in meaningful outdoor experiences.

The 2nd phase Together We Grow Capital Campaign goal of $1.77 million will allow us to renovate the youth house to the Rosel and Elliot Schewel Education Building, construct Addison’s Amphitheater with a covered stage and terraced seating, build a Camp Store with visitor bathrooms and concessions, create a new Friendship Circle Bus Loop with pollinator garden, add a year-round retreat space to the back of the cottage and build our endowment.

Rosel and Elliot Schewel Education Building

The Rosel and Elliot Schewel Education Building (formerly the Youth House) will provide open facilitation space for visiting groups and events and a safe gathering space in inclement weather. Kids of all ages will enjoy a new nature lab and art space to showcase community art. A catering kitchen in the basement will assist with summer meal preparation and build capacity for additional revenue generation through event rentals and community gatherings. Individual bathroom stalls will be built with changing areas.

Addison’s Amphitheater

The amphitheater has long been a treasured gathering space. With enhancement, it will be able to support a variety of community and camp events. Outdoor lighting, sound equipment, covered stage, and wheelchair accessibility will add functionality and performance space for the community.

Welcome Cottage

The original cottage, an existing structure on the property, has been undergoing critically needed renovations and enhancements. It now serves as CKBY’s administrative hub, providing office space and a handicapped-accessible bathroom.

The current back porch was converted into a sunroom to provide retreat spaces for the community in addition to camp staff, students, and volunteers.
